On January 22, during the press conference for MBC’s entertainment program “Radio Star” 900th episode, held at MBC’s new headquarters in Sangam, Mapo, Seoul, Kim Gura said, “I was surprised by the attitude controversy over Goo Hye-sun’s hat. Goo Hye-sun must be upset about it.

Since its first broadcast in 2007, “Radio Star” has been a staple of Wednesday nights for 19 years, producing many memorable moments and viral “memes” that have earned it great love from viewers. As it reached its 900th episode, the show set the record as the longest-running talk show on terrestrial TV, surprising many.

However, the show recently became embroiled in an unexpected controversy. On the January 15 broadcast, guest Goo Hye-sun wore a hat despite the main PD’s advice against it, leading to criticism about her attitude. Following the incident, Goo Hye-sun responded indirectly by posting on her account, “Hats are my freedom.”

Regarding this, PD Kim Myung-yeop explained, “To clarify, it was not a controversy at all. One of the PD’s duties is to monitor how the guests appear. That day, we simply asked, ‘Are you okay? Would you like to take off your hat?’ So we did not edit it out.

PD Kim Myung-yeop continued, “She arrived early, communicated well with us during the reading, and did an excellent job during the recording. But then there was talk of an attitude controversy. There was absolutely no problem. We didn’t mention it to avoid making it a bigger issue.”

Kim Gura also said, “On real variety shows, no one puts on makeup. People wear hats and stuff. She wore the hat because there was something like that at home. I was surprised.”

He added, “Goo Hye-sun is experienced, so she can brush it off with a smile, but I think she must be upset. It’s a shame that despite doing well on the show, it turned into something negative for everyone.”
